Finding Vega in the night sky
Use Vega as a bright reference star and learn how to locate it from your observing site.
Find Vega in my skyA bright star in Lyra
Vega is one of the bright stars of the Summer Triangle, alongside Deneb and Altair. The seasonal name is associated with northern skies; the view and height above the horizon depend on your latitude.
Find the star, then the pattern
Open Vega in the map and choose your location. Start with the bright-star filter so the sky is less crowded. Add constellation lines after you have identified the star.
Check the selected time
If Vega is below your horizon, advance the timeline or try another date. Orion’s direction and altitude are tied to the displayed time, so return to Live before comparing with the sky overhead.
